Happy New Year Everybody!

I wish for only the bestest 4Yoo this 2012 and on and on . . .

One thing is certain. 2012 is the end of the world as we know it. No doomsday calendar message here ha ha. At every moment of every hour this world is done and born again. On and on we bloom in awe. On and on we bloom in all. If you think your know who we are or when we are please guess again.

The image above was created via a mixture of ones, zeros and paint and pen. The background is from one of my smaller paintings. The text is a poem/song that I wrote. I poured it all into a Photoscape mixing bowl and stirred well.

No Limit?

I love it when things presumed to be constant, permanent and certain are discovered to be, well, inconstant, impermanent and uncertain. One or two scientists may soon have to eat their boxer shorts on live national tv. During 2011 the speed of light was revealed to be possibly not quite fast as things can go.

Albert Einstein was a pretty smart fellow and C was one of his letters. E=MC2 But could Alberto have been wrong? Could some speedy little neutrinos violate the speed limit of the universe? Does God indeed play dice. “The scientists behind the experiments, who are part of the Oscillation Project with Emulsion Tracking Apparatus, or Opera, collaboration, had conducted more than 15,000 measurements over three years before announcing their results.

They used 10 microsecond long pulses of neutrinos in the initial experiment, but other scientists pointed out that this could be a potential source of error as the pulses were relatively long compared to the difference in time being measured.

In the new test they used shorter pulses of neutrinos, at around three nanoseconds, so they could time the arrival of the neutrinos with greater accuracy.

When the Opera team ran the improved experiment 20 times, they found almost exactly the same result.”

Who Wants To Know?

For your enjoyment-amusement again here via Youtube is the long journey musical basement tapes recording of one song included in the book Flow Motion. Who Wants To Know is a song I wrote. Musician master Murray Kinsley recorded it with me. The cartoon is mostly all Johnny. Murray made the funny Mujotles hayfield image used in the credits at the end.

I Me Me Mine; About JR

Canadian born artist residing in Ottawa, Canada

John Redmond's work is fluid. He creates pure abstract and abstract land/waterscapes by an action pour, splatter and spray technique. Seldom does Redmond use a brush. Accidentally on purpose is his method. He employs the flow of waterborne acrylic paint to form layers of texture and blended colour.

Redmond's paintings are often delicate. Others are bold and surreal. Redmond expresses images of clouds, mist, storms over wilderness forests and lakes, waves, seas, under water worlds and gentle or wild wind blown rains. Some paintings are filled with phantasmic imagery. Splashes of colour on canvas and the movement of water build his distinctive style. Whatever artistic vocabulary Redmond employs his expressive paintings are to be seen, felt and touched.

Applying acrylic paint with an almost watercolour method over his textured base, Redmond reveals moods reflecting the rhythmic pulse of the fluid world in which we live. Viewers are drawn to Redmond’s abstract imagery because they recognize in his work the flow of something which they themselves are. His multi-dimensional paintings evoke an experience of inner and outer reality. The viewer is welcomed into a painting and urged to create along with the artist.

Redmond paints for joy, sanity, self-development and the expression of beauty. His art reflects a life long interest in world religion, philosophy and psychology. A special interest in East Asian thought considerably influences his artist expression. Redmond’s experience and love of Canadian wilderness is also evident in his paintings.

More I Me Me Mine;

His paintings have been shown at Ottawa’s local galleries and art venues. Masks created by Redmond appeared at the National Art Centre in Opera Lyra’s production of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’. Life sized puppets designed and created by Redmond have been a part of professional performances in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and New York City.

Redmond was born and raised in the Montreal area. He moved to Ottawa to attend university and is a long time resident of Ottawa. He holds a B.A. in Religion from Carleton University, a B.Ed. from University of Ottawa, and is also a Montessori trained teacher. Currently Redmond teaches in public school at the elementary K-6 level in Ottawa.

Redmond studied Fine Arts while attending Carleton University, Ottawa. University courses included study of North American Native Art, and Asian traditions of Buddhist and Hindu Art.

This artist strives for a balance between action and quietude. Redmond began practicing yoga and meditation while enrolled in a Pure and Applied Science program at John Abbott College, St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec. During this period he also began a life long interest in the martial arts. His athletic endeavours have included marathon and ultra-marathon distance running. He has completed 20 such races. He was a core team member of several Cross-Canada running relay teams. Redmond has assisted with the instruction of young martial artists and has taught yoga and meditation in the Ottawa area. In October 2004 Redmond completed the Toronto C.N. Tower Stair Climb (1776 stairs) in 18 minutes 30 seconds.

You will find Redmond on stage in the Ottawa area singing some Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, J.J. Cale or Lennon tunes. He also enjoys writing and performing his own songs, accompanying himself on guitar. Redmond views his music, his dynamic physical activities and the quietude of yoga and meditation as complementary. This sense of action and silence is expressed through his paintings.

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to share my art with you at The Mill Street Gallery and Café, Sydenham, Ontario. I love this area. I have paddled and hiked throughout Frontenac Park. With each passing day I realize the connection to this beautiful place. My family and relations were pioneers of Frontenac County. Great Great Great Grandpa William Redmond was married in Sydenham as was his son, John Redmond, my Great Great Grandfather. Many family members still live in the area settled by our folk over two hundred years ago. Redmond, Babcock, Barrett, Medcof, McFarlane, Donnell, Dowker, Trousdale, Perry, VanLuven, Walker and more are families well known in the area. They are my own; being either direct ancestors or family relations. Thinking of how they struggled and laboured to build this community lets me feel very happy to display my art at the Mill Street Gallery and Cafe in historic Sydenham, Ontario.

Get out on the highway . . . looking for adventure . . .

In a casual conversation during my visit a couple weeks after this photo was taken Pat and I realized that we had grown up in the same Montreal area suburb. Although on different streets, we lived about the distance of three houses away from each other and went to the same elementary school. Pat was one year ahead of me. There is little doubt that as children we played together. What a surprise it was when we realized this. My brother Steve wrote to me when I e-mailed the tale to him, “Your story proves that if you go far enough away from home, you will be home again…” The universe is curved.

Murray Kinsley exchanged his Gibson guitar and pick for a screwdriver and picture hanging wire that day in late March 2011. Merci encore mon ami.

“Me! Me! Choose me!” They called out as we made our creative decisions about where to hang which paintings in that wonderful Mill Street Gallery and Cafe space.

Above photo; I’m holding a photo of my great great grandparents John and Ann Redmond. Several old family photos are included in the show to highlight our connection to Sydenham and the surrounding area.

Our family roots are thick throughout the Sydenham area. Great great great Grandpa William Redmond came to Canada a widower with young children. In Sydenham in 1858 He married Nancy (nee Barrett) widow of Daniel Perry. Nancy also had three young children. Together they had three more children. Their combined family lived just north of Sydenham on the east side of Rosedale Rd, halfway between Alton Rd and Freeman Rd. William's son John Redmond, my great great grandfather married Ann Donald/Donnell in Sydenham in 1861. William and Nancy Redmond purchased 203 acres (C11 L1) in Portland Township, Frontenac County. This is indicated on the 1860 map of Portland Township. John and Ann Redmond raised a family there. While Post Master of the area in 1894 John Redmond named the area Holleford after the family’s home of Hollyfort, Co. Wexford, Ireland.

The above album contains photos of the show that were taken during my visit on April 19, 2011. I traveled to Sydenham for an interview with Julie Druker who wrote the article which appears in the Frontenac News.

Circa 1890-1895; The family of John and Ann Redmond. Their home was at Holleford, C11 L1 Portland Township. In later years John and Ann retired to Kepler (located South of Sydenham) where they appear to have lived with the family of Ann’s brother.

Mary Ellen Redmond (far left in the photo above) was the first wife of James T. Babcock, father of the late Jack Babcock, who became Canada’s last living WW1 veteran at the time of his death in 2010. A number of Holleford men served in the Canadian Forces during WW1, including Jack’s half brother Manily who was my grandfather’s cousin. Grandpa Redmond served with the 21st Battalion. Others in the extended family also served in that war. John and Ann Redmond were grandparents to Jack’s siblings.

Happy New Year One and All,

It’s cold on top and hot down under. That is the way it goes.

May all we who enjoy a winter flu be found in a circle filled with powerful medicine. Mine was found in the DVD of, “Concert For George,” which I will say more of below.

This posting has pictures of a recently completed pair of paintings which form a diptych. Purely abstract, they were painted along with the landscape posted in the immediately previous December 2020 posting titled, “And You Can See.”

The series of four paintings to which these panels belong were given black and white undercoating with colour applied in liquid form as is my habit. In a previous blog posting I shared photos of the undercoating process for these paintings.

Good Medicine;

Recently I borrowed a copy of “Concert for George” from me nephew. It was just what the doc ordered for a cold dark January.

On November 29, 2002, one year to the day that George Harrison died, friends gathered to celebrate his life by playing his music at the Royal Albert Hall, London, U.K. Here is the scoop from the Concert for George website;

Risqué? – that would be the Monty Python portion of the show. George Harrison was a big fan and financial backer of Monty Python.

My posting prompted Canadian musician/singer/songwriter Brent Titcomb to reply,”OMG!!! Thanks for mounting this John. It was great to experience this with Liam. What a huge love vibe!”

The first half of that concert was a performance of Indian music. First Anoushka Shankar performed a solo on sitar then she conducted an orchestra performing a piece composed by her father Ravi Shankar who sat with George’s widow Olivia Harrison throughout the concert. The second half of the concert, after an intermission was performances of George Harrisons music.

I have been challenged to find a YouTube video clip of the Indian section of this concert so I will share a little of Ravi Shankar with his daughter Anoushka. If you enjoy the Indian sound you can find more with a search.

Happy Holidays To You All.

Merry Christmas.

The Winter Solstice has placed we who live in the North on the way to Spring and Summer sunshine. The darkness of Winter is giving way.

I’m posting one of my most recent paintings. It is a 24” x 24” x 1/2” acrylic on canvas painting. Previously I shared the undercoating stage of this painting and three others in the series. This one is rather summer sunshiny wilderness lake looking. It was made during the dark days before the Winter Solstice of 2010. It has some moody blues but also a warmth from red, yellow and gold.

NEWS BULLETIN

2011 will bring my Flow Motion show to the Mill Street Gallery, Sydenham, Ontario. March 29 to May 29, 2010 my acrylic paintings will be featured in a solo show at this gallery-cafe. Sydenham is located North of Kingston, Ontario and is near Frontenac Park.

The jury was unanimous in accepting my artwork. I approached the Mill Street Gallery because our family settled the area 160+ years ago. Many of our folk are buried in the Sydenham cemetery. Our families, Redmond, Medcof, Dowker, Babcock and related families were pioneers of this historic area.

I am looking forward to mounting the show. Also, June 2, 2011 to June 25, 2011 my Flow Motion art will be part of the group show which will feature the artists indicated on the poster image seen above.

The map below indicates Sydenham. GGG Grandpa William Redmond, wife Nancy Barrett and their combined families lived on the just North of Sydenham on the East side of Rosedale Rd, halfway between Alton Rd and Freeman Rd. If you travel West to the Loughborough-Portland Rd and then go North a short way you will come to the Holleford area. You will see Holleford Rd. and Redmond Rd. This is area named by GG Grandpa John Redmond. He named Holleford after his home village of Hollyfort, Co. Wexford, Ireland(near Gorey,) The 203 acres of land the Redmond family owned in this area (seen of 1860 maps) is C11 L1 on the West side of Holleford Rd in Portland Township. Redmond cousins still own land in the area and farm.

It is also noted as the birthplace of the late ‘Jack’ John Henry Foster Babcock, Canada’s last WW1 veteran who passed away in 2010 at the age of 109. His father was first married to our G Grandaunt Mary Ellen Redmond. I am my family are related to Jack via the Babcock and Dowker family. The Babcock family in the area are mostly of UEL origin, settling in Canada at the end of the American Revolution. The Dowker family is of Yorkshire, U.K. origin. Jack’s Grandfather, Henry Babcock, was married to our GG Grandaunt Hannah (nee Medcof). It is all in the family in this area. And that is one big reason I wanted to show my art at the Mill Street Gallery.

Sydenham, named after Lord Sydenham, is a community in Frontenac County, located in the municipality of South Frontenac. It is situated at the west end of Sydenham Lake and located north of Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Dan Aykroyd; Sydenham home.

Sydenham (actually a wee stones throw South closer to Keplar) is the home to Dan Aykroyd and wife Donna Dixon on the land originally settled by his great-grandfather Samuel-Cuthbert Aykroyd in the mid-19th century.

As Dan Aykroyd’s family were also early settlers of the area I can imagine that our families would have been known to each other all those years ago. It was a relatively small community.

This image is of a postcard in our family collection – dated 1906 on the back. It shows a view of Sydenham looking up Mill St. I think the building on the right in the foreground is the Trousdale store. Trousdale family has been in the area since about 1836. Our GGG Grandaunt Mary Dowker was married to Mathew Trousdale who had a farm nearby. I think he was perhaps a brother or uncle of the Trousdale who began the business. FOUR ON THE FLOOR

Lasts week I put four 24” x 24” x 1/2” pre-primed canvases on the floor and began to lay down some black and white undercoating. That takes several days to dry. Last evening (Nov. 26) I spread newspaper on the floor put two of them down ready to paint. I cleaned my spaghetti sauce paint mixing jars, pulled the acrylic paints and brushes out from storage, and I mixed some paint. I simply add a coffee mug full of water to the jars and then dip a brush in to the acrylic paint. The glob of colour that ends up on the brush looks to be about a tablespoon full but I simply eyeball the measurement. My thought was to make a thin mix of paint so the colour would be pale. I think this may be a nice contrast to the black. I can always add some stronger paint later.

Below are some images of the black and white undercoating.

The first layer of colour has dried as I type and I have put a second layer on one of the two paintings which are in process now.

And so the painting continues.

I’ll keep you posted. Time-Space is a rather lumpy sort of ‘thing’ flowing at different rates in different places. You may find the update a paragraph below or in the next posting. LoL

During the past half a handful of weeks I have been writing another song. It began one cold fall evening when I got the urge to write a tune. Noticing that it was cold outside I began…,” There’s a chill outside and the wind is blowing cold…” I played around with a chord or three and soon I had a verse. One verse leads to another and a bad chorus and then a good one and the chopped bad chorus becomes the break. It was the break all along but I didn’t know it. Plus it is not that it was ‘bad’ but it was not the hook, the catchy chorus I hoped for. I’m sharing the lyrics as they are now.

Update; Argh. Late at night after a movie I added some paint of various colours to the canvas I have been working on. In the morning I awoke and it appeared that the colours had mixed and much of the canvas seemed muddied. I contemplated putting the canvas under the shower and scrubbing off what colour I could and begin reapplying. However, I decided to push on and added a bit of red and yellow…we shall see. I can always rely on the shower.

Hello All,

This one is to send a salut and merci beaucoup through Time-Space to a dear one who passed away recently.

Lyn is mom to Leigh-Anne and Tom Stanton and is Murray Kinsley’s mother-in-law. Murray and Leigh-Anne are our Wicked Grin band friends.

In the days after Lyn died I thought of her and wanted to write a nice song in her memory. Each life is a story with many lines. And like all stories there is much to a life that is written between the lines. We are each far more than we appear to be. Also, it seems that we are separate when ultimately all lines of division dissolve. I shall let you read between the lines of my song lyrics below. Lately I have been singing them often. Salut Lyn.

This morning, before I began making this posting, I came upon a video posted by a Facebook friend. I was present when Ralph Stanley sang, ‘Oh Death’ at the Ottawa Bluesfest a few years ago. It was amazing. I’m including one of his performances of that song as well as the rendition I found today performed by some young women.

The notes attached to the video of Ralph Stanley indicate, “Ralph Stanley, aged 82, singing "O Death" a cappella at the Hills of Home festival near Clintwood VA in May 2008. On the hillside behind him lies the grave of his brother, the great Carter Stanley, as he petitions the grim reaper to spare him over till another year. Raises the hair on your neck!” Indeed. And even more when heard live. It is a moment I will not forget.

Here is the version I found posted this morning.

The late Joseph Campbell is one of our modern sages. He shed light on world mythologies and the myths we live by. Campbell distilled his wisdom to a phrase, “Follow your Bliss'.” He shared many thoughts about how to live; how to remain in relationship with the well of life. That man knew how to read between the lines.

“In the wheel of fortune, wisdom points to the center. Youth points to the rim.”

We live in a one-dot world.

In the book, "A Joseph Campbell Companion – Reflections on the Art of Living” which is a collection of Campbell’s writings; he points out the need for ‘Sacred Space’. “A sacred space is any space that is set apart from the usual context of life . . . You really don’t have a sacred space, a rescue land, until you find somewhere to be that’s not a wasteland, some field of and where there is a spring of ambrosia- a joy that comes from inside, not something external that puts joy into you – a place that lets you experience your own will and your own intention and your own wish . . . “

Campbell continues; “Sacred space and sacred time and something joyous to do is all we need. Almost anything then becomes a continuous joy.

What you have to do, you do with play.

I think a good way to conceive of sacred space is as a playground. If what you’re doing seems like play, you are in it. But you can’t play with my toys, you have to have our own. Your life should have yielded some. Older people play with life experiences and realizations or with thoughts they like to entertain. In my case, I have books I like to read that don’t lead anywhere.

One great thing about growing old is that nothing is going to lead to anything. Everything is of the moment.

When Jung (Carl) decided to try to discover the myth by which he was living, he asked himself, “What was the game I enjoyed when I was a child?’ His answer was making little towns and streets out of stones. So, he bought some property and, as a way of playing, began to build a house. It was a lot of work, utterly unnecessary for he already had a house, but an appropriate way to create sacred space. It was sheer play.

What did you do as a child that created timelessness, that made you forget time? There lies the myth to live by.”

“We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.” Campbell’s writings shed light on mythic images of the hero’s journey. We are the hero. “Participate joyfully in the sorrows of the world.” Our personal sacred space gives us the bliss, in the space where life’s lines dissolve. “The Hero’s return is the integration and sharing of that bliss.”

The famous speech attributed to Chief Seatle is quoted by Campbell, “The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors . . . Each ghostly reflection in the clear water of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water’s murmur is the voice of my father’s father . . . the wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also receives his last sigh . . . The wind also gives our children the spirit of life . . . All things are connected like the blood which unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.”

Since I’ve been away from this particular cyber space Prince Edward County, Ontario council allowed the demolition of a 135+ year old heritage building on Main St. Picton, Ottawa City council voted for the ploughing under of a city park and erecting 20 storey Bank St. Twin Towers, “Dr.” Theodor Seuss Geisel had a birthday, John Lennon turned 70, Julian Lennon hugged Yoko and President Obama has now become as popular as George Bush ll. I await the resurrection of Chief Seattle and for him to become the first American President of the republic. It’ll be just like starting over. (Everybody Knows).

I am not pleased with the way we are treating some of our older heritage buildings.

Despite a publicly stated (on Prince Edward County, Ontario website) policy of being devoted to the protection of heritage on Main St. Picton, and against the recommendation of PEC heritage advisors, the majority of PEC council voted to allow demolition of a 135+ year old heritage building on Main St. Picton, Ontario. The manner in which this occurred made national television as a worker narrowly escaped being buried in the rubble when a wall collapsed while he was in the tower.

A local added the middle text, “Home Of The Wrecking Ball',” to the road sign for Picton, Ontario when news of the demolition spread.

The demolition (They Tore Down The Church On Sunday) was at first carried out without proper safety protections by one already convicted of serious environmental pollution crimes in the area.

--IN 2008 HE WAS FINED OVER 650,000 DOLLARS AND SPENT FOUR MONTHS BEHIND BARS FOR VIOLATING THE ONTARIO WATER RESOURCES ACT WHEN HE DEMOLISHED THE FORMER BAKELITE PLANT IN BELLEVILLE. " - CKWS

It should be noted that among other things this Sinclair was convicted for polluting the waterways with PCB laden soil. He is the man at the controls of the high hoe. Most guilty of lack of vision is the PEC council who allowed this to happen.

Art Flies In The FM Sky

Hi Art Lovers,

Here is the latest from sunny almost the Solstice Ottawa.

While photographing one of my latest creations on a sunny fluffy cloud filled day this week something unusual happened. I did not notice it until I was editing the photos during the evening. Two flies rested on my painting during the photo shoot. When I was editing the photo I saw a blackish splotch that seemed out of place. I checked the original and it was not there. Then I zoomed in on the photo and discovered that the splotch was actually the image of two flies that had landed on my painting while I was photographing. You can see the shadows of there bodies and wings in the above photo. I thought, '”Wow, art loving insects.” It then occurred to me what else flies enjoy resting on. That is art.

I posted the fly photo on Facebook. While there I noticed the profile picture of our musician friend Tom Wilson. The Johnny-Warhol in me could not resist an impish impulse. I used my PhotoScape program to grab the image of Tom from his Facebook page. Is not the internet world scary? Then I performed my mischievous deed. I grafted the photo of Tom to my flies. The result is the photo below. Fly master Tom has the chops.

Well, the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico continues and it appears we are receiving more accurate flow rate measurements now (maybe). Thirty-five to fourty thousand (35 - 40,000) barrels per day is the current estimate. It is already close to two million barrels of toxic crude oil that has spewed into the waters. Add this to the toxic chemical dispersants being used and you get an unhealthy brew that will be hanging around for years.

Now this oil ‘spill’ is eight times larger than the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

BP’s Deep Horizon well has poured out about 60% of what the Ixtoc Gulf of Mexico oil well did in 1979. However Ixtoc was ten months gushing to reach the 3,329,000–3,520,000 barrels indicated on a Wikipedia table of the largest oil spills. The Deep Horizon well has gushed for just under two months at the time of writing yet it ranks an infamous number four on the list of all time worst oil spills. Hope is that more oil can be captured and that the well will be capped by September. The BP oil spill could well surpass the Ixtoc spill and replace it as number three of all time oil spill disasters.

The pressure is on the Obama administration to be acting as if they are in charge of the response and to bill the cost to BP. It does not seem to me, from news reports, that an all hands on deck effort is yet being made to protect the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico.

We shall see. Eleven people died when Deep Horizon exploded and sank. The future is murder for much wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico plus misery and hardship for many folk in the area.

The oil-junky world is not innocent.

Deep Water Horizon has been in my thoughts for a month. It is pretty much unfolding as I expected when news first broke; DISASTER.

This week I joined a new Facebook group titled;

“I vote we plug the Gulf oil leak with BP executives.”

The company’s PR position has thus far often been an absurd act of corporate covering the liability butt. This one will be in courts for a couple decades to come. BP appears to have been doling out information slowly and only when pressured. Company officials have made some callous remarks. Tony Hayward, BP CEO (for the moment) said on internationally broadcast television he hoped this would all go away so he could have his life back. So would the folks in the Gulf Tony.

As seen in a video posted on YouTube the gentleman has made some fairly stupid and offensive comments such as “The overall environmental impacts of this will be very, very, very modest.” Tight reins on information about accident and the well capping process plus such statements convey a strong impression of cover up to limit BP’s liability. On occasion Hayward has back pedaled from some of his verbal gaffs. Hayward’s life in the hot seat is not over yet and he likely will find himself in a court and in front of the American Congress investigating committees.

The American Congress has proceeded with some investigation of the Deep Water Horizon disaster.

“The investigation began with the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where the executives of the three companies involved in the disaster came under fire from lawmakers.
They testified under oath in a room steeped in history.
It was the same room where Congress investigated the sinking of the Titanic nearly a century ago.” Voice Of America, News.com

The couple of paintings I was slowly working on this past weeks are now varnished. I played around when I was applying the white undercoat which created quite a few layers of texture. This is especially so at the bottom of each painting.

I put undercoat on four canvases having the same 28” x 20” dimensions but at this time have added colour to only two of those canvases.

News Flash; Flow Motion 2011 At The Mill Street Gallery, Sydenham, ON

Hola Friends,

I seem to have had a bit of a sabbatical since my last posting in early May. My current condition is blog backup so you can anticipate a few postings in rapid succession.

I have been painting.

Also, I received news that I was accepted, by a unanimous vote of the jury, to have a solo art show at the Mill Street Gallery, Sydenham, Ontario in 2011. When the exact dates are scheduled I will let you know.

GGG Grandpa William Redmond and family farmed 30 acres just North of Sydenham on the East side of what is Rosedale Road before 1860. William Redmond and his son John Redmond, our GG Grandfather, were in the area by 1852.

John Redmond, who homesteaded 200 acres at Holleford, located a few kilometres Northwest of Sydenham, named the Holleford area after his home of Hollyfort Co. Wexford. Our cousin Pete Redmond still farms at Redmond Rd.

Across the street from the Mill Street Gallery is the Trousdale General Store. It was apparently founded by Mathew and Mary Trousdale’s son John Trousdale and is the oldest general store in Canada. Mathew Trousdale was married to our GGG Grandaunt Mary (nee Dowker) Trousdale. They were in the Sydenham area very early, perhaps about 1836. Mary’s sister, Elizabeth came with her husband Thomas Medcof about 1850. Elizabeth and Thomas Medcof are among our GGG Grandparents They farmed at Holleford on the Loughborough Twp side of Holleford Rd. just two lots North of Mathew and Mary. Between them was Mary and Elizabeth’s brother William Dowker (recorded as ‘Duker’ in the 1852 census. Together, the families lived on and farmed about 600 acres at that time.

On line 44 we find William ‘Duker’ (correctly spelled Dowker) and on line 45 we see Mathew ‘Trusdal’ (correctly spelled Trousdale). This image indicates the lot numbers and acreage etc.

Above is an image of the pre-confederation1852 regular census for Canada West (Ontario) Loughborough Township, Frontenac Co. Lines 35 to 40 show our folks (spelled ‘Medcalf’), Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Dowker) Medcof and family. GG Grandpa John Dowker Medcof was born in July of 1852 so he does not show in the census. Immediately below them is William ‘Duker’ (correctly spelled Dowker) and family. William was Elizabeth’s brother. Much of the Dowker family had arrived in Canada circa 1836. Elizabeth followed with Thomas and family in 1849.

This is a fine example of chain migration; family members and friends following each other to a location. It happened within Canada too as members of the family migrated to Middlesex Co, Ontario located Northwest of London and then some back to Frontenac Co. in later years.

Note; the 1851 census was actually delayed and taken in 1852. I refer to it as the 1852 census.

Mathew and Mary Trousdale were parents of Mary Ann Trousdale who was grandmother of the late Jack Babcock. Jack gained recognition as Canada’s last living WW1 veteran. He passed away in February 2010 at the age of 109. He enlisted at age 15 served as a child soldier in the Canadian forces during WW1. Jack’s father James T. Babcock was raised from infancy by our GG Grandaunt Hannah (nee Medcof) Babcock. James’s father, Henry Babcock, married Hannah after his first wife Mary Ann (nee Trousdale) died. Hannah, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Medcof, was Mary Ann’s first cousin and a niece of Mathew and Mary Trousdale.

Above is an image of the pre-confederation1852 regular census for Canada West (Ontario) Loughborough Township, Frontenac Co. On line 38 we see William Redman, age 40, our GGG Grandfather and on line 39 we see his son John Redman age 15, our GG Grandfather. Later the family used the ‘Redmond’ spelling. In 1852 they appear to have been living and working at the farm of John and Mary Wolf (Wolfe) and family. In 1858 William married widow Nancy (nee Barrett) Perry and the combined family is found in the 1861 census living just North of Sydenham on 30 acres on the East side of what is now Rosedale Rd. Below is a photo of the corner of Alton and Rosedale Rd which I took in August 2009. Below it is a photo taken looking East from Rosedale Rd. toward the land our folks lived on and farmed.

James T. Babcock was first married to our G Grandfather’s sister Mary Ann Redmond. All of Jack’s half siblings were first cousins of our grandfather. The lot that Jack’s family lived on was the one Elizabeth and Thomas Medcof and family lived on in 1852. Below is a photo of Redmond Rd. and Holleford Rd. The lots on the right side, located in Loughborough Twp. were owned by our Medcof folk and later by Jack’s family. On the left side of the photo which shows property in Portland Twp. on the West side of Holleford Rd. is land still farmed by our cousin Pete Redmond. GG Grandpa John Redmond and family homesteaded 203 acres just North of this acreage on the West side of Holleford Rd in Portland Twp. William Redmond appears as owner on the 1861 maps of the area.

G G Grandpa John Redmond named the area Holleford after his home of Hollyfort, Co. Wexford where he, his sisters Mary and Jane and father William had lived prior to emigrating to Canada. I believe that they lived around Hollyfort near Gorey, Co. Wexford because that is where I find Redmond folk in the 1853 Irish Griffith records. Much of Ireland’s census information was destroyed during the Irish civil war early in the 20th century when the records building in Dublin was blown up. The Griffith record is a record of those who owned property and also of tenants. It serves as a census substitute for genealogists.

Above is a photo taken looking North on Holleford Rd. The corner is where Holleford Rd turns West. This is where the Holleford crater is located at the Babcock farm. The building to the left of the flag pole is the old one room school house. The building to the right of the flag pole is the old church our GG Grandfather Rev. John Dowker Medcof built. J. D. Medcof was brother of Hannah Medcof who married Henry Babcock. Henry was Jack Babcock’s grandfather. Hannah was actually both stepmother and a cousin of Jack’s father. We share the common Dowker ancestry. The Dowker and Medcof families came from Yorkshire, UK.

The back of this photo indicates that the store was moved to Sydenham circa 1912. James Redmond stands in the center of the photo. Alice is standing on the left behind the group of children from the school next door. Perhaps some of the Babcocks are seated in the buggy.

I must say that dead artists get paid really well. The above painting by the late great Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso sold this week at auction for a cool $106.5 million USD (£70.3 million) at Christie's in New York – And hey, since our Canadian dollar is now above par with the U.S. dollar, at today’s currency exchange that would be a mere

$110,246,277.56 CAD.

Not a bad days wage. Picasso completed the painting in a single 1932 day.

As good as that sounds Jackson Pollock still has the record for the most expensive painting sale on record. I think Jackson took longer to paint it so his per diem rate may be lower than Pablo’s.

The Mona Lisa was stolen by a Louvre employee in 1911.According to the Wikipedia article Pablo Picasso was a suspect at one point in the investigation.

“French poet Guillaume Apollinaire, who had once called for the Louvre to be "burnt down," came under suspicion; he was arrested and put in jail. Apollinaire tried to implicate his friend Pablo Picasso, who was also brought in for questioning, but both were later exonerated.”

May Day has been here and we are moving on.

Spring has fully sprung for all in Ah-Tah-Wah.

Today I have posted photos of my latest completed painting. One of its’ series siblings remains in the final stages.

I was loitering in the lobby of the Tower of Song one day, not long ago, and could barely contain myself upon hearing the melodies of passion from above. As the heroes passed through I thought of you and what I spoke of in confidence. I too, am not the sort of chap to keep something of such importance to myself so I share it all, especially with you. A song came to my mind because, even in the lobby of the Tower you hear these funny voices.

Leonard Cohen For Governor General . . . . . Doo Dum Dum Dum Dee Doo Dum Dum . . .

This week someone invited me to join the Facebook page “Leonard Cohen for Governor General / Leonard Cohen comme Gouverneur Général” In good humoured support I joined and posted the labelled photo of one of my 24” x 24” x 1/2” paintings pictured above.

The current Governor General is due to be replaced in September 2010. A light-heartedly serious suggestion is that Leonard Cohen be appointed to the position. The Facebook page has received national media attention. More about the page comes after this info from Wiki.

For those who do not know, here is the GG story from Wikipedia extra links and all je pense.

“The Governor General of Canada (French [masculine]: Gouverneur général du Canada, or [feminine]: Gouverneure générale du Canada) is the viceregal representative in the federal jurisdiction of the Canadian monarch and head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, who is equally shared with 15 other sovereign nations in a form of personal union, but resides predominantly in her oldest realm, the United Kingdom. On the advice of her Canadian Prime Minister only,^[1] the Queen appoints the Governor General to carry out most of the monarch's constitutional and ceremonial duties for an unfixed period of time — known as serving At Her Majesty's pleasure — though five years is the normal convention, as is a rotation between anglophone and francophone incumbents. The first Governor General of Canada Charles Stanley Monck, 4th Viscount Monck was from Templemore, Co. Tippary, Ireland. His family was friends of our Lloyd family in Co. Tipperary. There are entries in the diary of our GG Grandfather’s cousin which mention Lady Monck visiting. Interesting

The current Governor General is Michaëlle Jean, who has served since 27 September 2005.”

A Poet For Governor General;

Here is what the founders of the Facebook page say.

Is this realistic? Likely not. Mr. Cohen is probably too wise to accept the job even if it were offered to him. But a choice that reflects our true pride as Canadians in who and what we are. A nation not afraid to be led by a poet.”

Ah well, even if Leonard is not appointed Governor General the thought is lovely. To have a poet in office – sounds great.

The latest Flow Motion acrylic painting on canvas from John R Redmond;

This week I worked on laying colour down on one of the two 40” x 30” x 1/2” canvases that I had prepared with textured undercoating. Here are a few sneak peeks. These photos were taken after I had put the first splashes of colour on. Currently I am in the process of add a few final touches before I add a first coat of varnish. We shall see where it goes from there. Notice Bob Dylan watching in the upper left of the above photo.

The paint is still wet. The photos above show the very first application of colour to this canvas.

Things have evolved a bit from this preliminary application of colour. I enjoy the movement and colour in the upper regions of the canvas. When I post the finished painting you will notice that that area remains much as it is now. I worked on the bottom third, adding more colour etc. Sneak peek almost over.

Some People Feel The Rain . . . Others Just Get Wet

Watching the rain on Elgin St., Ottawa, in April. Watching the light change and the traffic passing by in the rain.

Salutations 2 Y’All,

I bought a couple more 40” x 32” 1/2” canvases. I had the thought to acquire something smaller but decided to continue the current series for at least two more. They leaned against my hallway wall for a day or two awaiting the direction of my muse. This morning I spread papers on the floor and put the canvases side by side on the floor. A while later I poured on a layer of white undercoat paint. Flow Motion is on the move.

The title of this blog posting is a Bob Dylan quote. Rain is also the subject of a song I wrote which Murray Kinsley and I are currently recording.

Well, I want to paint. I want to colour our world.

Those tulips I photographed last week and revealed in the last blog posting are now in full bloom. I saw a few red blossoms along the canal earlier in the week. Now they are a garden of red and green.

Wow. It will be an early tulip time in 2010 Ottawa.

Tulips in the rain. These are in blossom (April 8) very early this year along the canal in Ottawa. The Tulip festival is in May. These ones will be done.

My mind was running peacefully

Across the breadth of a wide prairie

By my lonely friends I'd been left behind, again

By a window in a mid-west cafe

Wisdom poured down; droplet flames in the rain

I met silence in the watery play

While sheltered there in a mid-west cafe

Currently friend Murray and I are working our way through recording this tune which I wrote. Murray does the arrangement and performs on multiple instruments. I sing lead and perhaps bang on guitar. The basement tapes; On this song we have put some drums, bass, organ, piano, acoustic guitar and ghost vocals. The ghost vocals are a rough version to help with arranging the tune. Later we will rerecord the lead vocals and perhaps some backup vocals. The mix is progressing.

Elvis?? Macca??? A Walk In The Park Along The Rideau Canal In Downtown Ah-Tah-Wah

Yahoooooo! Spring has sprung early.

The tulips are arising already in Ottawa along the Rideau canal in the heart of the city. Tulips are the stars of the annual Tulip Festival in early May. Very often we still have much snow on the ground at this time in early April. At this rate, the tulips may already have come and gone by May Tulip Festival time .

After reading my friend Rob Bruner’s story about a recent chance encounter he and wife Judith had with Paul McCartney while on a walk in an L.A. park, I went for a walk along the canal with hope of seeing Elvis.

It was during that walk when I took the photos above and others posted in this blog entry.

While working on this one I decided at a certain point that while I enjoyed much of what was happening in the painting, there was one big clown face that bugged me. I liked the face but I didn’t want it the foreground lol….What to do? I added black and gold. This seems to have worked. I shall bare all for your amusement and reveal Bozo further down in this posting.

Details of a 40” x 32” x 1/2” acrylic paintings on stretched canvas

After working with the painting and puzzling for a few days about how to end it, I plunged in and added some black paint. It was applied to the upper half of the canvas and on two or three lines that had already been created by previous under-painting and colour application. I also applied a narrow band of black at the very bottom to give it all something to stand on. The black I applied at this stage balanced well with some dark areas in the upper third of the painting. Those areas were created mostly with Payne's grey. I could not simply cover up what I wanted. I had to consider the whole piece and that each bit of black went with what was already there on the canvas. (Concept; painting all over). Once the black dried I applied a bit more gold paint in certain areas over the black. A final coat of varnish was applied over the whole canvas.

Here is Bozo as he appeared at a certain stage of the painting process. He was tenacious. I did try in various ways to eliminate him. But always he shone through. Away Bozo. Back to your nether world. He got covered up but his spirit shines.

Hello Friends,

Here I am posting the latest in a series of 40” x 32” x 1/2” acrylic paintings I have made recently. Above is a detail photo.

Further down in this blog posting I share lyrics from a song I wrote recently. I offer them as a tribute to Dan Achen who passed away this week.

I am enjoying this painting. Some of the detail photos are fun. When I view them in this digital format is is like entering the painting. Its’ many dimensions unfold in the detail photos.

When I began applying colour to this painting I wanted to continue emphasising magenta, as I have in this series, to give the painting a good red warmth. The sunlight of Spring time is encouraging. And our weather in Ottawa recently has been a warm respite from severe, snowy recent winters. I want to encourage a warm Spring to usher in a fine Summer.

I think the lyrics tell the story.

This past week our friends experienced the loss of a good friend, Dan Achen.
Dan Achen was a Juno award winning recording producer and former lead guitarist for the Canadian band, “Junkhouse’.

The lyrics of my song seem appropriate so I am sharing them with you further down in this posting.
To all of those who were and are close to Dan my deepest sympathy.

Former Junkhouse guitarist dies of suspected heart attack

HAMILTON, Ont. — Dan Achen, former lead guitarist for the Hamilton rock band Junkhouse, has died of a suspected heart attack.

He was 51.

Achen, the owner of Catherine North recording studio in downtown Hamilton, was playing a game of pickup hockey with friends at Oakville’s Glen Abbey arena late Monday when he suddenly dropped to the ice.
Duke Foster, a sound engineer at Catherine North and one of Achen’s hockey teammates, said there were paramedics on the scene within minutes but they couldn’t revive him.
During the ’90s, Achen was a key part of the band Junkhouse, which scored international success with the hit Out of My Head.

Achen was part of a close knit crew of music industry insiders who had been getting together for the past 10 years to play a friendly game every Monday and Thursday.
"We realized we shared a love for both rock ’n’ roll and hockey and we quickly became friends," said Andy Curran, a prominent artist manager with SRO Productions.
"Our most recent addition to the team was (former Canadian Idol contestant) Rex Goudie. Dan was slotted to produce Rex’s next record."

Achen, originally from Regina, moved to Hamilton in 1981 and became part of the local music scene.
"He rode from Regina on his Kawasaki Ninja (motorcycle) all the way to Hamilton, recalled Junkhouse frontman Tom Wilson.
"He stopped at the Gown and Gavel and that’s where he met Colin Cripps. That’s basically how we all met him."

Achen formed a band called the Go Devils living with Cripps, who is now a sought-after session guitarist for artists such as Bryan Adams. Eventually both would play together in Junkhouse. Achen was part of the wedding party when Cripps married internationally known singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards.
"Dan Achen was a fireball redhead and his personality was a pretty good match for that red hair," recalls Edwards. "He was a great guitarist. He loved guitars."

Several internationally known artists have recorded at Catherine North over the past 10 years, including Achen’s niece Feist. At a concert two years ago at Hamilton Place, the Grammy-nominated singer held up her favourite red guitar and proudly announced that it was a gift from "Uncle Dan."
In 2008, Achen co-produced a Juno-winning album Bring Me Your Love, a solo project by Dallas Green of the platinum-selling rock band Alexisonfire.

"Making that record with Dan was one of the best experiences I ever had," Green said in a statement.
Achen is survived by his mother Phyllis in Calgary, his brother Norm in Oakville, Ont., sisters Lyn and Lynda both of Calgary and June in Peticodiac, N.B.. Achen is also survived by his 13-year-old son Riley and Riley’s mother Judy Donnelly.”

In honour of and in gratitude to Dan Achen for filling our silence so beautifully, Hockey Night In Canada offered this tribute during the Saturday night coast to coast broadcast.

John Redmond's work is fluid. He creates pure abstract and abstract land/waterscapes by an action pour, splatter and spray technique. Seldom does Redmond use a brush. Accidentally on purpose is his method. He employs the flow of waterborne acrylic paint to form layers of texture and blended colour.

Redmond's paintings are often delicate. Others are bold and surreal. Redmond expresses images of clouds, mist, storms over wilderness forests and lakes, waves, seas, under water worlds and gentle or wild wind blown rains. Some paintings are filled with phantasmic imagery. Splashes of colour on canvas and the movement of water build his distinctive style. Whatever artistic vocabulary Redmond employs his expressive paintings are to be seen, felt and touched.

Applying acrylic paint with an almost watercolour method over his textured base, Redmond reveals moods reflecting the rhythmic pulse of the fluid world in which we live. Viewers are drawn to Redmond’s abstract imagery because they recognize in his work the flow of something which they themselves are. His multi-dimensional paintings evoke an experience of inner and outer reality. The viewer is welcomed into a painting and urged to create along with the artist.

Redmond paints for joy, sanity, self-development and the expression of beauty. His art reflects a life long interest in world religion, philosophy and psychology. A special interest in East Asian thought considerably influences his artist expression. Redmond’s experience and love of Canadian wilderness is also evident in his paintings.

His paintings have been shown at Ottawa’s local galleries and art venues. Masks created by Redmond appeared at the National Art Centre in Opera Lyra’s production of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’. Life sized puppets designed and created by Redmond have been a part of professional performances in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and New York City.

Redmond was born and raised in the Montreal area. He moved to Ottawa to attend university and is a long time resident of Ottawa. He holds a B.A. in Religion from Carleton University, a B.Ed. from University of Ottawa, and is also a Montessori trained teacher. Currently Redmond teaches in public school at the elementary K-6 level in Ottawa.

Redmond studied Fine Arts while attending Carleton University, Ottawa. University courses included study of North American Native Art, and Asian traditions of Buddhist and Hindu Art.

This artist strives for a balance between action and quietude. Redmond began practicing yoga and meditation while enrolled in a Pure and Applied Science program at John Abbott College, St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec. During this period he also began a life long interest in the martial arts. His athletic endeavours have included marathon and ultra-marathon distance running. He has completed 20 such races. He was a core team member of several Cross-Canada running relay teams. Redmond has assisted with the instruction of young martial artists and has taught yoga and meditation in the Ottawa area. In October 2004 Redmond completed the Toronto C.N. Tower Stair Climb (1776 stairs) in 18 minutes 30 seconds.

You will Redmond find on stage in the Ottawa area singing some Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, J.J. Cale or Lennon tunes. He also enjoys writing and performing his own songs, accompanying himself on guitar. Redmond views his music, his dynamic physical activities and the quietude of yoga and meditation as complementary. This sense of action and silence is expressed through his paintings.

One For Summer While February Is Snowing On Us In Ottawa

Hi Every Olympic Hockey Fan and You 2,

It was getting to feel like the dark dead of winter a couple weeks ago so I bought a couple larger canvases and decided to paint the antidote for February Cabin Fever Daze . . . warm colourful summer !

I used ample amounts of magenta to achieve the warm radiance in this painting. It has green and blue Payne's but the overall feeling is certainly warm.

The magenta red was applied first on a large area because I really wanted it to be dominant. I then added a little of this and a little of that. When I noticed how delicate the very bottom turned out at the first application of paint I decided to let it remain. It looked too lovely. The rest would be a counterpoint to that delicate colour. I do enjoy the double line I crated during the under coat stage. I intended that to contain the Payne's blue when it would be applied. Some Payne's was added to the top area to put that in balance with the lower area and I added some gold too. There is an area at the top left corner where some of the lines created by undercoating and my initial application of colour turn back toward the center of the painting. There I added a little more Payne's and gold to help that happen. The eye travels left to right along the upper diagonal but it is turned back toward the center by some curved and vertical lines at the far right top created by texture and colour. I am happy with the result. It warms my winter daze. (p.s. these paintings are 4sale)

We have had a relatively benign winter with little snow in Ottawa. Thanks to the Ocean currents and all that Nina stuff the snow storms are hitting Washington.

February; Out Of The Dark Night Into The Light

Hello Everyone,

Late January is passed and now we here in Canada are zooming out of the darkness into the light. Olympic games are cheering folks and I decided to do some paintings as an antidote to the cabin-fever-daze.

The Galerie 240, Ottawa show ‘Looking Back’ which features some of my paintings is still up and available for viewing. You can see more about that toward the end of this posting or head back to earlier postings.

First I prepared two 40” x 32” x 1/2” pre-primed canvases with layers of white textured undercoating then I applied the fluid acrylic colour. A brush rarely touches the canvas. I dribble, spatter, and spray pour the colour and allow the fluid motion of the waterborne paint to be my technique. Sometimes I move the canvas around to let the paint flow in a manner that pleases me. Occasionally I will soak up some water with cloth of tissue. I react to what happens on the canvas and add layers of colour as the situation moves me. Mine is a planned spontaneity. Things happen on the canvas accidentally on purpose.

This piece has a landscape look.

Ok, I give up wrestling with this posting to fix the spacing here...{:~DDD

I have been working on three or four medium sized paintings. They seem to be coming along satisfactorily. Last week I bought a couple larger 30” x 40” canvases. I’ll start to put some undercoat on them soon.

Look into my eyes . . .

MUCKING AROUND
During the holiday season and into the early new year I worked on one canvas. I had purchased three canvases of the same size put the textured undercoat on them all. However, when I went to apply the colour to the first canvas I discovered that the weave of the canvas was much larger than what I have been accustomed to working on. The paint did not go on in a way that pleased me. I ended up using the canvas as a mucking around on experiment.

I decided to dribble around and not be overly concerned with the way it all turned out. It was an experiment…JUST MUCKING AROUND

CONFESSION
Sometimes when you are painting things don’t work out…this seemed one of those occasions for me…{:~DDD although there are some interesting perspectives within it…It was not what I was looking for although it may yet become something. The other two canvases that were undercoated at the same time seem to be nearer to what I had hoped. Once I came to terms with the rougher weave of the canvas life flowed sweetly.

All of the above five images are of the mucking around in process.
Below is one of the two other paintings that I began to work on at the same time. The result is more satisfying.

This one has a hint of gold added which is revealed in certain lighting. The gold colouring may not be totally evident in the photos. It adds another dimension to the painting.

New Showing At Galerie 240 Ottawa

Toasting John Redmond’s ‘Flow Motion’ show at Galerie 240 Ottawa

Hi All,

The new year is here. With the new year arrives a new show at Galerie 240 in Ottawa.

My show “Flow Motion’’ was held over through the holiday season into January 2010. Flow Motion ran from Friday November 20, 2009. We took down paintings this past week.

However, Good news and happy new year; Flow Motion carries on in the new show at Galerie 240.

Tom Wilson has been creating some FAB paintings. Tom is well known for his musical artistry as a one of Canada’s premiere performers Solo and with bands The Florida Razers, Junkhouse, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and the ‘artist’s collective’ Lee Harvey Osmond.

In the photo above, one of Tom Wilson’s paintings peeks in on Flow Motion during the November 20th Vernissage at Galerie 240. Tom adds further dimension to his bold face motif by carving lyrics from his songs and poetry into his paint on canvas.

Tom Wilson will be performing in the Ottawa area soon.

Tom, Lee Harvey Osmond and Liam Titcomb will perform at the Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield, Quebec on Friday January 15th and Saturday January 16th. Both shows are scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Seasons Greetings All,

Well, that’s a wrap.
But NEWS FLASH . . .stop the presses . . .
Galerie 240 owner Brenda Warner is keeping the entire ‘Flow Motion’ show up throughout the holiday season. You still have an opportunity to view the show however normal Galerie 240 hours are suspended for the holidays.

You will need to phone ahead to set a viewing time – not a huge problem because they live there too.

My art show ‘Flow Motion’ at Galerie 240, Ottawa has made its final curtain call (see NEWS FLASH above) We had a ‘flow down’ happening on Saturday evening. It was a coming down-going up-getting younger-almost over-new coming…all purpose party to celebrate Galerie 240 owner Brenda Warner’s birthday, the ‘Flow Motion’ curtain call, the holiday season and the coming New Year.
And I forgot my camera.

Today’s painting is one I completed last week. I posted photos of its twin in an album to be found in the previous December 2009 blog posting titled ‘Flow Motion Come Down In Time’. However I have posted a photo of that painting here below so you may see both paintings in this short series.

Here is the full sized painting. It has much gold in it which appears as earth tones in the photos. I don’t think it is possible in the online photos to reveal the sparkling aspect of the gold used in the paintings. The gold paint shines out when the painting is viewed from different angles and adds another dimension to the piece.
